“And all the lives we ever lived and all the lives to be are full of trees and changing leaves.”
- Virgina Woolf (To the Lighthouse)
We have a colourfully cosy space at number 30 High Street, Forres, filled (as far as reasonably possible) with beautiful books. We have loads of new fiction, classics, poetry, SF, fantasy, murder, crime, short stories, weird, and children’s books; there’s a big fat nature section, a well-balanced nurture section, space for biography, history, and arts. There is also a small second-hand section with a little bit of everything. If you’ve already got too many books (impossible), we stock a delightful range of greetings cards, stationary and board games.
The best books are the unexpected, un-looked for, the chance discoveries. Under the Leaves might have exactly the book you weren’t looking for.
If you can’t make it to the shop, because, you know, it’s raining or whatever, have a look on our page at Bookshop.org:

Lost Letters
“The unread story is not a story; it is little black marks on wood pulp. The reader, reading it, makes it live: a live thing, a story.” - Ursula K. Le Guin
Everybody has something to share, but sometimes our words get a little lost. So, we’re opening a sanctuary for lost letters. It works something like this:
come to the shop to drop off your words (short fiction, poetry, any form)*
your words are read and sealed in an envelope which displays a brief description of the piece in question
filled envelopes are up for sale, available to all on a pay-what-you-will basis
all proceeds go towards the publication of an anthology of selected Lost Letters
*You can also send us stuff (really send us, by post - address at the bottom of this page).
Our beautiful wee vouchers are the perfect present for the insatiable bookaholic in your life. You don’t know what they’re read recently, they’ve got wildly different tastes from you, they’ve got no taste at all but they do love a (bad) book? Get them a gift voucher, we’ll post it out to you, and all the lucky recipient has to do is meander down to the shop to pick out a book or two.
The gift of words.
